I’m originally from the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island, a place that quietly shaped my love for slower living, real connection, and noticing the small things.

I spent the past decade living in Byron Bay, and have recently settled in Newcastle to be closer to my husband’s family, where we’re raising our three children.

My path into sewing and film photography wasn’t planned.. it came by luck, curiosity, and a bit of op-shop magic, stumbling across a sewing machine and a film camera and striking gold. I fell in love with the process straight away.

I love meeting people from all walks of life, listening to their stories, and capturing moments as they really are.

Rudi Buu has been a love project sitting quietly in the background for the past six years, taking many forms along the way.. from sewing and selling children’s clothing made from upcycled fabrics, to creating one-off, unique pieces. Somewhere in between welcoming more children into the world, it paused, shifted, and evolved.

Now, Rudi Buu Creative Studio is being re-launched as it exists today - a way to honour my passions while keeping motherhood at the centre.

It is my absolute joy to shoot film; nothing compares to the magic of the process. My other great joy is sewing, and the deep satisfaction that comes from upcycling as an act of care for ourselves and the planet.

Rudi Buu Creative is a home for nostalgia and joy — for slowing down, valuing connection, and taking the time to make things that last a lifetime and beyond.
